Meet the Peristeen range of bowel products

Learn about our Peristeen range of bowel products. We offer both high- and low volume transanal irrigation systems, all designed to help users better manage their bowel issues.1

A word about transanal irrigation (TAI)

If you are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), you may already know a bit about transanal irrigation (TAI). TAI is a technique that involves introducing water into the bowel through the anus to help empty it. There are both high- and low-volume TAI optionseach suited to different needs and preferences. The Peristeen range caters to both.

Coloplast’s TAI products: Peristeen Plus and Peristeen Light

At Coloplast, we listen closely to people with MS and their care partners, so we can offer bowel care solutions that fit your everyday life. The Peristeen range includes two main TAI products: Peristeen Plus and Peristeen Light.

‎Meet Peristeen Plus

Peristeen Plus is a high-volume TAI system that can help users preserve their independence. It is well-suited for people who have found insufficient relief from conservative bowel management such as laxatives, diet and exercise and allows the majority of users to control when and where they empty their bowels.

Peristeen Plus is portable, compact, and lightweight for optimal mobility, allowing users to complete their TAI procedure at home or on the go.2

‎Meet Peristeen Light

Peristeen Light is a low-volume TAI system indicated for people with bowel dysfunction. It is designed to be easy to use and to fit smoothly into your everyday life, offering a convenient option for managing bowel symptoms both at home and/or on the go.

In collaboration with healthcare professionals, you can explore which approach best matches your needs and lifestyle, giving you more flexibility and control over your bowel in your everyday life.

‎How does Peristeen Plus work?

Peristeen Plus is easy to use.3 It works by instilling water into your bowel whilst you sit over a toilet. With an easy-to-use control unit,4 the water is carefully pumped from a waterbag and instilled with a rectal catheter, specifically designed to minimise discomfort during your irrigation.

Here, you use a larger volume of water, which can help you to stay continent for up to 2 days.5

Once the catheter is removed, you can then empty your bowel of the water and any stool whilst sitting over the toilet. As a high-volume TAI device, it can potentially empty the rectum, sigmoid colon, and descending colon.6

‎How does Peristeen Light work?

Peristeen Light accommodates individual bowel needs with different options.

The easy to squeeze water container allows you to instil the water into your bowel whilst sitting over a toilet. Peristeen Light uses less water than Peristeen Plus and is designed to be an intuitive and easy to use solution that fits easily into everyday life or travels.

A seperate extention tube can be purchased for Peristeen Light 250 ml for extra flexibility, meaning that you can perform your irrigation in a position that is right for you.

The goal of TAI is always to help you empty your bowel regularly and comfortably, reducing the risk of unexpected accidents and the discomfort of constipation. Many people find that using TAI products like those found in the Peristeen range helps them: Peristeen Plus gives users confidence and control through effective and predictable prevention of faecal incontinence and constipation, and 75% of users agree or strongly agree that Peristeen Light is a solution you can rely on to manage your bowels.7
